Capacity Building of Religious leaders and Religious Institutions

Peshawar, Swabi and Mansehra Districts,


  •  To re-orient religious leaders/Ulama and increase awareness amongst them about issues related to rural development, population menace, environmental degradation and Women in Development with a particular focus on the productive and reproductive rights of women.
  •  To identify role and responsibilities of religious leaders in addressing the issues pertaining to women, female education, population menace, environmental degradation etc.
  •  To establish core group mechanisms, whereby, religious leaders regularly interact with each other at different levels to assess and exchange views on their performance with respect to their role, responsibilities, strength and weaknesses in the developmental process.
  •  To establish an authentic database on the profile of religious Madaris operating in NWFP. This to include the number of students and teachers and educational and other facilities available to them, the types and standard of courses, strengths and weaknesses and their relation with other organizations etc.
  •  To develop an inventory of institutions and individuals both female and male whose efforts would be of value in bringing attitudinal changes and working together with the community based organizations.
  •  To formulate policy suggestion for other organizations to effectively work with Ulama.
  •  To establish and facilitate close linkages between and with supportive Ulama.
  •  To develop a comprehensive proposal for the second phase of the project.

  •  Eighty Four Development Based Orientation Meetings organized
  •  Four Capacity Building workshops arranged for male and female students.
  •  A total of 19 meetings were held in different Madaris in all the three districts.
  •  27 orientation workshops were organized in Madaris
  •  Three interactive lecture meetings organized
  •  Survey conducted of Religious Madaris
  •  A Book was developed on Ulama and Development
  •  One Khutiba conference organized and more than 200 Ulama participated in the conference.
  •  Up-gradation of Madaris Syllabus
  •  Books arranged for library on Religious/Development.
